Vitamin D and Osteoarthritis

Hormonal bone metabolism is dependent on vitamin D. Low levels have adverse effects on calcium metabolism, osteoblast activity matrix ossification, and bone density (8). The vitamin D status in the incidence and progression of knee OA in the Framingham OA cohort was studied. Low concentrations and low intake of vitamin D seems to be associated with an increase risk of knee OA progression (8).
