What Is It?
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (os-tee-oh-GEN-e-sis im-purr-FEC-ta) is a group of inherited
disorders in which the bones of the body break easily. It results from a defect in the
chemical make-up of collagen, which is a protein that acts like glue to hold tissues
together and gives strength to bones. It affects children as well as adults. Early
diagnosis can help reduce symptoms and prevent complications.
What Causes It?
Is an inherited disorder than can be passed from parent to child. It is possible that
neither parent carries the gene, but a child will still develop the disease.
